Recovery Efforts

Contributing to recovery efforts for a variety of rare and protected species within BICY that NPS biologist research and manage. BICY is home to 4 federally protected plant species and 14 federally protected animal species. These range from grasses to bats to manatees. Some of the most iconic species include the Everglade snail kite, the Florida panther and the Ghost orchid. Research for these species focus on learning about their resource's needs, threats to the long-term survival, and preserving and understanding genetics of rare plants.
